Firehouse Gift Station Update

Monday, January 16th, 2012

The Firehouse Gift Station at Magic Kingdom which closed on July 10, 2011, briefly opened last week to test Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. There is no longer a pressed penny machine at this location and it appears that the machine will not be returning.

When we update our coin listings the end of this month, we will be marking the three designs that were at this location as being retired.

Frontierland Shootin' Arcade Machine Changes

Monday, January 16th, 2012

The quarter machine at the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade has been removed, but there are now two penny machines with old dies at this location.

With the addition of these two penny machines, there are now a total of nine old dies that have been put back on-stage at Magic Kingdom in the past month. All the old dies that are now at the Shootin' Arcade were at various Disney resorts except for Mickey's face which was originally located at Pleasure Island. All designs will be given an additional catalog number with the "MK" prefix to denote that the design was available to get at the Magic Kingdom.

One machine at the Shootin' Arcade contains, Mickey's Face (DTD0007), removed March 2002 from Mouse House at Pleasure Island for button "A", Donald's Face with rays (RES0029) removed March 2002 from Contemporary Resort for button "B" and Goofy's Face (RES0030) removed July 2002 from Contemporary Resort for button "C".

The other machine at the Frontier Shootin' Arcade contains Cowboy Mickey (RES0065) for button "A" and Cowboy Donald (RES0067) for button "C". These two designs were originally installed in a machine at the Settlement Trading Post which was moved to Pioneer Hall several years later at Ft. Wilderness Campground before being removed November 2006. Woody (RES0080) that is in this same machine at the Shootin' Arcade was originally at the Polynesian Resort and was removed November 2000.

Magic Kingdom Emporium Machine Change

Monday, January 16th, 2012

The single die machine that was at the Emporium was recently converted to a three die machine. The Cinderella Castle design is no longer the same one that was at that location. Cinderella Castle (MK0034) is the design for button "B" and is the die that was originally at Mickey's Gift Station at the Transportation & Ticket Center that was removed in 1999. The other 2 designs at the Emporium are Mickey fixing bowtie (MK0007) for button "A" and Minnie with purse (MK0008) for button "C". Both of these designs were originally in a machine at Disney Clothiers at Magic Kingdom, but were removed March 2002.

Tony's Town Square Restaurant Update

Monday, January 16th, 2012

A couple of months ago, we reported that the single die machine at Tony's Town Square Restaurant at Magic Kingdom had been converted to a three die machine. Lady and the Tramp 5 of 6 with Lady, Tramp, Scamp, Colette, Annette, Danielle, Trusty & Jock that was in the single die machine was now the design for button "B".

What we didn't realize until we were able to get all the coins from this machine is that the die for this design has been changed. The original die when it was first installed in the single die machine had outlined characters. The die that is currently in the three die machine at this location has filled characters. It is unknown at this time when the die change took place. It could have been done when the machine was converted or it could have been done several years ago.

We have contacted a few other collectors, but nobody has gotten this design in the past few years which would help determine exactly when the die change took place. If you have gotten this design in the past few years before the machine was converted, please let us know when you got the design and if it had outlined or filled characters. This will help us determine when the die change took place.

January 17th UPDATE: We've had one report that on August 21, 2010, the die with outlined characters was still being used. So the die replacement had to occur some time after this date.

FINAL UPDATE: We've have found out that the design with the filled characters did get put in at the same time that the machine was converted from a single die machine to a three die machine.
