2018 Coin Update

Thursday, December 28th, 2017

Disney's theme for this year appears to be "The Year To Be Here" which is on some of the new 2018 coins. In addition to the locations that were mentioned yesterday all of the resorts that had 2017 dated coins now have new 2018 designs. New 2018 designs were put in today at Epcot at The Land, Disney Traders and Mouse Gears. That leaves Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios that still need to be completed or that are not available like the Stage 1 Company Store that was mentioned yesterday. CTM Group who is the vendor that makes the dies for the machines has posted artwork of most of the new 2018 coins even though they are not all available to get yet. We have used the artwork they have posted and pictures we have taken of the machine faceplates to show what all fifteen new 2018 dated coins look like. Hopefully, the remaining new 2018 coins will all be available soon.

New 2018 Dated Coins

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

Replacing the 2017 coins with new 2018 dated coins has begun today. It started with replacing the quarters at All-Star Music and All-Star Sports resorts. The 2017 penny at Chester and Hester's Dinosaur Treasures and the 2017 quarter at Harambe Wildlife Express Train Station at Animal Kingdom were also replaced with 2018 designs.

New 2018 anniversary designs will continue to be put in at the same locations where there were 2017 coins until all fifteen have been replaced. We will be posting more info and pictures soon as the 2017 dies are replaced.

There is one location that appears will be a problem. A little over a month ago construction walls were put up in the Stage 1 Company Store at Hollywood Studios which blocked access to the quarter machine that had a 2017 design. We were originally told by cast members that this machine would not be available for several weeks. The latest thing we have heard is that this area of the store won't reopen until Toy Story Land opens summer 2018. Hopefully, this machine will be relocated somewhere else so that the quarter in this machine will be available to get to.

New runDisney Machine

Friday, November 3rd, 2017

A new 3-die electric machine has been placed on-stage at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex inside J Center. This building used to be called Jostens Center but Disney changed the name earlier this year to J Center when Disney's contract expired with this sponsor. This machine may be difficult to find because we were told that the machine was seen in different locations so the machine could be moving around. The machine when we saw it today was located downstairs in an area that is currently an exhibition area for the runners for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend which is being held this weekend.

All three new designs have the runDisney logo on them and the wording "EVERY MILE IS MAGIC". The designs are:

  • Mickey running
  • runDisney logo inside an outline of Mickey Mouse head
  • Large runDisney logo

Damaged Jack Jack Die

Friday, October 13th, 2017

One of the most difficult things for us to catch is any dies that get damaged and replaced. About the only way to catch this is to roll a coin when the die is damaged and then to keep checking the machine with the damaged die until it gets replaced.

We were lucky to notice that the Jack Jack die in the machine inside Disney Traders at Epcot was damaged. We were planning on posting something whenever the die was replaced but since it's now been over three months since we noticed it we wanted to go ahead and post something about this.
